I remember from when the top wasn’t joined, where those of us living in Woodlands had to take a bus for an hour to get to the nearest MRT station, that was either Yishun or Chua Chu Kang.
What is the cost of truth? Aristotle once said “To say of what is that it is not, or of what is not that it is, is false, while to say of what is that it is, and of what is not that it is not, is true”
So let us use Yaacob Ibrahim in this paradox. In the last Presidential Election both Tony “The Colonel” Tan & Tan Cheng Bock garnered approximately 35% of the votes respectively. Yaacob Ibrahim used that empirical fact as evident showing that 70% still supported the PAP due to both men previous affiliation with the ruling party.
Is Yaacob Ibrahim a blundering moron who is unable to see beyond contextual schema or is he really a purveyor of truth? Did anyone get hurt, disappointed or validated by this version of “truth”
Who is Julian Assange? From a quick glance, he looked like someone who could be one of the X-Men. The different between Julian Assange and Yaacob Ibrahim is that one man is being persecuted for telling the truth while the other still remained as a very well paid minister albeit not a very popular one.
Julian Assange is to many people the founder and editor-in-chief for Wikileaks. An organization whose sole purpose is to expose unethical behaviour in the governments and corporations of the world. In another word, Julian Assange and his team in on a holy crusade to expose the world for the fraud that it is.
Unfortunately telling the truth in a macro scale is a very very bad thing to do. According to the world by exposing the confidential documents that Assange and his team managed to get hold of, the information leaked will put many lives in danger and this act is consider to be reckless and irresponsible. Telling the truth that is.
What are we really afraid of here? Are we seriously afraid that by telling the truth we are put in an awkward position where we have no quantifiable reason/s to explain or are we just a bunch of little devious pricks who are hell bent to emancipate the world of happiness and love just for the profit of a dollar?
I came from a school of thought, “if you have nothing to hide then you shouldn’t worry about the truth”. And that is why I live my life very very fearfully.
The recent disclosure of information on Wikileaks put many people in Singapore, not just the world on the edge so much so their press secretaries have been somewhat busy. Some would spin as such that, those information are nothing but “old news” but does truth aged?
Today Yacoob “70%” Ibrahim came out with a public statement via his secretary that his children will go through National Service despite having dual-nationality, one of which is of US Citizenship. Something they will forgo when they come of age.
Two things came to my mind immediately when I read it. One, why would he even want to issue a statement because this concerns his family to which I consider a very private affair. Yes Yaacob Ibrahim might be a doofus to some but he is someone dad and husband as well. Family is definitely off limit. The second thought that came after was that “hey he must probably have something to hide to even bother to clarify this position but what can it be?”
In between Yacoob “70%” Ibrahim and Harry “ I’ve outlived all my presidents except the current ones” Lee having to make impromptu public statements due to the disclosure of recent Wikileaks documents that was sourced from the US Embassy, one thing became clear to me; how many more lies and frauds that these guys in government actually have and yet still stand on public offices? Who is telling the truth? What is the truth? Worse, I don’t even have Aristotle on speed dial.
Lee Kuan Yew may have the Straits Times as his own personal YouTube channel. We do not have such luxury. Alfian Saat sum it up commenting about the statements that were made by Senior Lee when he said; “ I declare a moratorium on responding to any more of LKY’s pronouncements. It is…increasingly clear that his ‘hard truths’ (his belief in eugenics, tribalism, etc) are not empirical observations…but prejudices cultivated within a rarefied and remote reality. A classic case of a self-appointed visionary of the ‘big picture’ who misses the small details…let the press give him all the airtime his ego needs…be mindful that he speaks from the inside of an echo chamber.”
All of us have our own brand of skeletons in our various brands of closets. That is given but there must be a line where no ambiguity needs to be tolerated of individuals who want to stand or are standing in public offices currently. More so if they are unethical, immoral, deceptively cunning and self-centred pricks under the guise of knowing the “bigger picture”.
Do we really want to live in the world where telling the truth is deemed evil while propagating lies and fraud is seen to be as normality is the dissemination of objective information/knowledge? I may have absolutely no qualms about gods, religions, homosexuality, capitalism but I think I need to put my feet down when there are individuals who openly conned us into believing the “hard truths”. It be a very sad day when the facts that you think you knew are nothing but absolute lies and perversion.
